SONIA FROJEN (she/her)

CASE CARE COORDINATOR

Sonia Frojen returns to Port Townsend in the Spring of 2024 after living in Seattle for a few years. Sonia grew up in the rural upper Midwest before moving to the Aleutian Islands of SW Alaska for junior high and high school. College in Portland, Oregon eventually connected her to the Salish Sea and environmental education aboard Schooner Adventuress as a deckhand and educator. She moved to Port Townsend in 2003 and has worked various jobs in maritime work, trip guiding, massage therapy, and for almost 10 years educating many young people around and on the water at the Northwest Maritime Center. She is dedicated to actively unlearning and dismantling racism, classism, transphobia, homophobia, ageism and ableism.

Sonia returns to the community she considers home to support young people as the Prevention and Intervention Case Care Coordinator for OWL360. Empowering young people for life-long learning and to help them be present in their life, are two important goals as she helps them build relationships and connect to resources in their community.

Please reach out to Sonia as she re-enters Port Townsend this year. When she’s not plugged into Owl360 work, you can find her walking in the woods or on the beach with her rescue dog Rocco, reading and writing, dancing, watching the sky and clouds, and participating in her 12- step recovery community. She also coaches Special Olympics Basketball, and sits on the Schooner Martha Foundation board.

PEER ALLY & SUBSTANCE USE SUPPORT

Since I was young, I have been curious about how the mind works. I spent 22 years learning how to navigate living with mental health struggles and past substance abuse. This has been an eye opening and connective journey with both myself and others, which has steered me towards a passion for helping others find resources. It can be terrifying figuring out how to start the recovery process and get help. I work with the Outreach team with ‘Believe In Recovery' and work with The Nest on Wednesday and Fridays offering support to take first steps and get connected to resources.

My goal is to hold a nonjudgemental ear and provide a safe place to talk about things big or small. We also have quiet rooms at The Nest for full conversation privacy. I guide people through the process of their needs whether that be filling out a housing application or finding which detox centers take that insurance. I want to show peers step by step that even though the healing journey is full of unknowns and lots of new information, it doesn’t have to be scary

JESSICA GARCIA, LMHCA (she/they)

MENTAL HEALTH PROVIDER

Jessica received her counseling education in Richmond, VA and has been a resident of the Jefferson County community since 2016. Her varied work experience has shaped her professional goals and career path - rekindling the spirit of her initial interest in the field of psychology. This began when she was 17 years old and realized that she would like to provide more effective services to youth than she had received herself.

Jessica strives to show up authentically and pulls from a blend of humanistic and cognitive modalities. She utilizes a variety of evidence-based techniques - such as those from dialectical behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, and mindfulness - to assist young adults in recognizing their capacities, setting/achieving their goals, overcoming challenges, and finding meaning in their lives. Jessica has a great respect for OWL 360’s mission and all that they have already accomplished in such a short time. She’s excited to be a part of their team and grow with the organization as they support more young people together every year.
